Cowles Nominated for National Award for Innovation

Drake University's Cowles Library is among 30 libraries nominated for the fourth annual WebFeat President's Awards for Innovation.

The awards recognize innovation in design and function in WebFeat clients’ state-of-the-art information systems. Winners will be announced at the annual President’s Awards Dinner ceremony to be held Jan. 20 during the 2007 American Library Association Midwinter Meeting in Seattle.

The WebFeat President’s Awards are presented to the libraries with the most innovative federated search systems in each of three categories — Academic Libraries, Public Libraries and Statewide/Multi-library Networks. Drake, Cornell University and Dartmouth College are among the 13 libraries nominated in the academic category. Award nominees represent the top innovators among the more than 5,000 leading libraries and information centers that use WebFeat.

"In partnership with WebFeat, all of the libraries nominated have crafted cutting-edge information systems to meet the specific needs of the communities they serve," said WebFeat President Todd Miller. "Despite the diversity of institutions represented by this year’s group of nominees, they all embrace innovation in the course of creating information systems to serve their users."

"This is great recognition for the development of access to our digital holdings and our talented library staff, but then we've already been recognized in the most important way – unprecedented growth in student use of library resources," said Cowles Library Dean Rod Henshaw. "WebFeat is a great technology partner and we're excited about our continuing partnership."

WebFeat is the developer of the WebFeat Search Prism, used by more than 5,000 leading public, academic, government and Global 1000 libraries and information centers —including more than half of the 20 largest U.S. public libraries, 12 statewide library systems and one out of every 10 Association of Research Libraries institutions. Founded in 1992 as an information technology consultancy, WebFeat has earned industry recognition from leading organizations such as Library Journal and the Gartner Group.
